Free Blog Headers and Installation Instructions
Here are some free header images and graphics you might want to use on your blog.
Free Blog Header Images
If you want to change the header on your Blogger or WordPress blog but you don't know how to use Photoshop or some similar program to create a custom header, you can just download a free header graphic online and then upload it to your blog. If you have a website you can also use them.
How to Upload a Free Header Image to your blog:
Blogger: To upload a header image in Blogger just go to the Layout tab and look for the Header graphic widget.
WordPress: To upload a header image in WordPress click on Appearance and then Custom Header.
These free header images came from the Free Webpage Headers Gallery. Please visit their website to view their complete collection. There are many graphics to choose from so you will have to click on each category to view them.
Note: You can also upload an image from your computer that you might already have as a header. A header is basically just a background image so try using a photograph or some other graphic and let Blogger or WordPress resize it to fit. You can change the header many times until you find what looks the best so give it a try.
These are just some free header graphics available from Free Webpage headers to give you an example of what they offer. These samples headers are licensed to the owners who created them. Please visit the Free Webpage Headers Gallery to download each one you want.

Note: Both in Blogger and WordPress, the ability to upload a custom header with these instructions depends on what template you are using. Some templates will require that the header is hosted somewhere else and that you edit the HTML to reference where it is hosted. If you don't see these options here or are unsure don't upload a header graphic.

How to Upload a Header in WordPress:

Remember to test what your free header looks like after you upload it to make sure the text is positioned properly. You can only change the position of the header and description text by going into the HTML. If you are uncomfortable with tweaking HTML or don't know how then pick another header image or ask someone for help.

Hi Wendy, I'm having a problem. I had a custom template and when I followed your instructions to install a header, the picture (header) did not show up, only the words.
This morning I defaulted to a basic blogger template and tried it again. Now no header shows at all.
I downloaded a beautiful header from the free site you give, but I'm wondering if I just need to design my own?
Is there something you can think of?

Katie - it appears that you were able to upload some type of header. Did you add your own header over one that you got from that gallery? Did you still need help?

This has not let me respond all day... trying again.
I designed one in Photoshop and Illustrator. Not sure why this one worked but the free one did not. Who knows.
Thank you so much for all this info. I look forward to my blog looking exactly like I envision soon. With your help I can finally see it happening.
THanks so much Wendy!

Katie - the header I see on your site appears to be one from the gallery I sent you to and yours is on top. Maybe you have two place in that area. I believe one you uploaded through the gadget and maybe the other one you added by editing the HTML?

No, that was my doing. The image is pretty standard, the one with the rocks.I was trying to be fancy but I'm not a graphic designer, obviously. LOL My husband, however, is, and he created one for me.
You must go look! It's amazing!!!

Very nice. I guess now you have that part of your site solved. Now you might want to remove that Blogger menu bar at the top.

Absolutely! Would you direct me to the instructions to do that? Or I can search when I have a second...
Thank you!
